In August 2020, I received a robocall from Jack Burkman; the call said, “Did you know that if you vote by mail, your personal information will be part of a public database that will be used by police departments to track down old warrants and be used by credit card companies to collect outstanding debts?”
I immediately saw this as a blatant attempt to suppress the vote, especially in the Black community. I shared with the community to NOT believe these calls. In interviews with local and national media, I informed voters NOT to trust these calls. As Secretary of State, I will be ever vigilant to protect voters and their access to voting. I will speak out strongly and with force to ensure that the rights of voters are defended and safeguarded.
